Corvettes de Olympia

Minutes of the March 14th, 2007 Meeting

Overview

Brian opened his first meeting of the year at 7:05 pm. The purpose of the meeting was to communicate the vision for 2007, bring members up-to-date on Club activities, consider two Executive Board (E-Board) recommendations, prepare for March and April activities, and to have fun! A slide presentation (in Microsoft PowerPoint) provided a focus point for the meeting.

Business Topics

A. 2007 Vision

A vision for 2007—“To Have Fun with Corvettes!”—was proposed and accepted. The vision was intended to answer why we are here, what we want to accomplish, and where we as a Club want to be at the end of 2007.

B. CdeO Club Model

How do we organize ourselves to have fun with Corvettes? Brian introduced the CdeO Club Model that graphically depicted the Club organization in five parts: an Executive Board, Standing Committees and Representatives, Special Committees and Events, Sponsors and Advertisers, and in the center—we Club members having fun with our Corvettes! C. Status Reports

During this portion of the meeting, we heard status reports on the February meeting minutes, the Treasurer’s Report, and from each of the Standing Committees.

February Meeting Minutes

The minutes from the February 14, 2007 meeting were approved. Highlights included the election of officers, a newsletter discussion and a budget discussion.

Treasurer’s Financial Report

In his first Treasurer’s report, Denny described the club’s five accounts: Checking, Savings, Rally, Scholarship, and Merchandise. There has been almost no change since last month, except that the prior month’s checking account balance of $109.52 is now at a slightly more comfortable $507.28.

Reports from Standing Committees

During this portion of the meeting, we heard reports from each of the standing committees.

Membership-

We voted in new members—Nick Strizic and Sandy Reinhardt. Welcome to the Club!

Sunshine-

Frankie noted that there were no reports of illnesses—thank goodness! Please call either Frankie or Vince if you know of anyone in the Club who has an illness.

Sponsorship-

Peggy reported that renewal letters were mailed. To date, Titus-Will, Jim and Jane Elliot of Cornerstone RV Center, and Wayne Vandiver of Wayne’s Ground Maintenance have all renewed.

Events and Activities

Jon reported on upcoming events beginning with the upcoming Lion’s Club Pancake Breakfast & Car Show at North Thurston High School on Saturday, March 17th.
Jon also reminded us that April 1st marks the Club’s dress rehearsal (pre-run) for the All City Rally on April 22nd.
This year, Meagan (with Michaela’s help) will act as Rally Master for the All City Rally. Proceeds from the rally fund the majority of the Club’s two automotive scholarships at South Puget Sound Community College. Meagan said that she could use more help. Anyone interested in helping should contact Meagan.

Historian

Nothing new to report.

Web site

Art noted that the Web site is up to date.

National Corvette Museum (NCM)

The 2008 Corvette will be introduced at the C5/C6 Bash on the weekend of April 26-28. "The Bash" is an annual meeting of owners of the various generations held at the NCM. The events feature activities like racing, seminars, and discussions with Corvette personalities.
The NCM will be selling several pallets of new GM and Corvette parts from the Guide Division of GM during the next few months on eBay. Proceeds will go to the NCM expansion.
Monterey Red will no longer be a color option for new Corvettes. It will be replaced by a darker red that will look even better!

Scholarship

Nothing new to report.

NWACC

Nothing new to report.

D. Old Business, New Business and Fun Stuff

Executive Board Recommendation on Newsletter

Michael South spoke on behalf of the Newsletter Committee, which also included Randy, Larry, and Leo. After receiving fairly split results from a survey of members and sponsors and considering the budget, they concluded that the newsletter is “one of those things that bind us.”
The committee recommended to the E-Board that we continue to provide a hard copy and give members an option for online-only delivery. The E-Board recommendation, which reflected that of the committee, was approved unanimously.
Note: Members that choose to have the newsletter delivered in online format may notify the editor through the link to the editor on our Web site, personal email, phone or verbally. All members will receive notices via email when the newsletter is available online.

Executive Board Recommendation on 2007 Budget

Denny reviewed the proposed budget, noting that our main income comes from dues and sponsors. There is little other income other than the Rally, which pays for the scholarships. Bottom line of a non-profit organization—income should match expenses. Denny has committed to recasting the budget again in six months.

Spring Meet & Greet

Bob Hill reported on the upcoming Spring Meet & Greet picnic to be held from Noon until 5:00 pm on Sunday, April 29, 2007, at the Yelm City Park. It will be a unique opportunity to participate with five other car clubs in the area, like the Old Car club in Shelton, the Mustang club, the Tenino Quarryman’s club, and the Hot Rod club. Bring a brown-bag lunch and come meet local members.

VetteFest

Nothing new to report.

Annual Dues

They are now due!!

Events

If you haven’t done so yet, please let Randy know if you plan to attend the Pacific Ocean Day Tour on May 26th and the Olympic Peninsula Weekend Cruise on August 4th and 5th. These events will be a little bit different this year, and Randy needs an idea of how many people plan to participate.

CdeO Day at Emerald Downs (Proposed by Jon)

The Club has participated in this event in the past, and it was a lot of fun! Jon reviewed a flyer for a “Day in the Races” which included a wide selection of menu options. All prices include admission into the park and general parking. Please look at the information on the Web site and vote for your favorite meal. The track opens May 28th through September 28th.

Corvette Open House

Brian presented a note from Larry Johnson proposing that we tie in the Corvette Open House event with the Corvette and High Performance open house on September 8th. A motion to approve was accepted unanimously. Other Corvette clubs will be invited and some type of dinner planned. Michael, Bob, Chris, and Larry volunteered to participate on a committee. See Larry for details.

Fun Stuff

Brian proposed to reserve some time at each Club meeting for a brief (usually 5 to 10 minutes) presentation on something you think others would like to know about (for example, what Eric did to his car). In April, David Snow from the LeMay Museum will give a multi-media presentation on the museum. Contact Brian if you would like to be added to the agenda.
